Jack blinked a couple of times, his brow furrowed. He kept his staff aimed right at the man’s chest.

“‘The Doctor?’” he repeated warily.

“That’s me. Hello!” the man said, waving his hand in greeting. His toothy smile hadn’t faded in the least.

“Doctor…what?”

The man turned his gaze skyward, raising his eyebrows and turning the corners of his thin lips down into a half-pout, saying to nobody but himself, “Oh, not too often I get that one. It’s usually ‘Doctor who?’” He redirected his attention to Jack. “No, no

But then, as quickly as it had come, it was gone.

Jack leaned forward as much as he dared, his lips pursed as he scanned the night sky for any sign of the odd object. In search of a less-obstructed view, he leapt down softly from his perch on the tree branch and onto the pond below, the still water freezing instantly beneath his feet, a thin layer of swirling ice sprouting from wherever he stepped.

His search proving fruitless, he shrugged and turned around, a quick bout of Winter wind lifting him from his place on the water and setting him down on the nearby land.

It was his eyes playing tricks, after all.

Well, it doesn’t look too intimidating when you put it that way.

Three hundred and twenty-seven years.

Now that seems to capture it a bit better.

Seventeen years spent in the company of a loving family, a warm village, and never really growing up. Seventeen years cut short tragically one fateful day while ice skating on a nearby pond. So this is kind of a little spoiler as to what my next project will be.
The background probably won't be green. I haven't decided that yet. I just stuck the background as green so you could see all of Jack and there wasn't any color conflict.
